Bérêche et Fils Reflet d’Antan NV Magnum
Bérêche et Fils Reflet d’Antan NV Magnum
The latest release of the NV Brut Reet d'Antan is based on the 2017 vintage, complemented as usual by some 30% reserve wines from a solera of demimuids dating back to 1986. This is showing superbly, oering up a deep and complex bouquet of citrus oil, warm pastry, peach, apple skin, fenugreek and spices, followed by a full-bodied, eshy and layered palate that's rich and generous, its concentrated core of fruit underpinned by racy acids, concluding with a long, saline nish. When I observed that this rendition is more rened as well as considerably less oxidative in prole than the Reet d'Antan of yesteryear, Raphaël Bérêche told me that he has been making a very strict selection of which barrels in the solera are retained, with this objective in mind. What's more, in around five years' time, this cuvée will be released only in magnum.
